Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Phulbani, on Saturday sentenced Sunil Kumar Digal, the former Revenue Inspector of Gudari in Khajuripada block, Kandhamal district, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine after convicting him in a bribery case.
The Odisha Vigilance had earlier filed a chargesheet against Digal under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in July 2021 to furnish a physical verification report for the complainant’s land.
At the time of sentencing, Digal was serving as the Revenue Inspector at Chanchedi under K Nuagaon tahasil in Kandhamal district.
Following his conviction, the anti-corruption agency has announced plans to seek his dismissal from service through the competent authority.
