Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary of Housing & Urban Development Department on Tuesday reviewed the progress of implementation of Waste Management Rules in all Urban Local Bodies of Ganjam, Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts.
The review meeting was held at Chattrapur in Ganjam to know if the orders of the National Green Tribunal pertaining to Waste Management Rules & other Key Urban Development Initiatives have been complied with or not.
Government of Odisha had filed an affidavit before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for its implementation in a time bound manner. All Urban Local Bodies of the aforesaid districts were directed to expedite completion of all the activities in the targeted time frame.
It has also been decided that any lapses in its implementation will be seriously viewed by Government and disciplinary actions against concerned officials will be initiated as deemed appropriate.
The progress in implementation of various key urban initiatives i.e. JAGA Mission, Construction and Operationalisation of Micro Composting Centres and Material Recovery Facilities in ULBs, Revenue Generation, Smart Street Lights and Livelihood Mission was also reviewed and target has been set against each activity for the effective implementation of the schemes and programmes.
It was stressed upon to timely achieve the targets and expedite completion of ongoing projects timely.
Collectors of Ganjam, Kandhamal and Nayagarh attended the meeting with their respective ULBs and District Administration officials. Director Municipal Administration along with Joint Secretary was also present during review.
