Gang Rape In Bhubaneswar Apartment
One of the most heinous crimes reported in the early part of the outgoing year was the gang rape of a 25-year-old woman in her apartment in Bhubaneswar.
The incident occurred when two men, Bikash and Jaga, entered her home through an open balcony door and stole her belongings.
They then sexually assaulted her at knife point, holding her two-year-old daughter hostage, while a third man, Tukuna, stood guard outside. The woman promptly reported the crime, leading to the arrest of the three men within 48 hours.
Gruesome Murder By Bail-Out Rapist To Silence Victim
Another tragic crime was reported in the last part of the outgoing year. A man, who was out on bail for raping a minor, tracked down the victim, killed her, and cut her body into small pieces before dumping them in multiple places in Sundergarh district.
The accused, identified as Kunu Kisan, is believed to have committed the murder to prevent the girl from testifying in court. Kisan allegedly cut the body into pieces after murdering the girl.
The police, with the help of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team, recovered the victim’s body parts in several locations in Sundergarh. The police have seized evidence, arrested Kisan and an accomplice.
Kisan had altered the number plate of his bike and wore a helmet to avoid detection. During questioning, he reportedly told the Jharsuguda police that he had been inspired by watching a crime show on TV, informed Jharsuguda SP Smith P. Parmar.
Bharatpur PS Case
The Bharatpur case involves a disturbing incident where an Army officer and his fiancée were allegedly assaulted by police personnel at the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar on September 15, 2024.
The couple had gone to the police station to file a complaint against some youths who had misbehaved with them.
As per the complaint, the police personnel not only humiliated the officer and his fiancée but also allegedly molested the woman and detained her without charges for over 14 hours.
The medical examination revealed serious injuries to the woman, allegedly inflicted by the police.
The Orissa High Court took suo motu cognizance of the incident and directed police to submit a report on the availability of CCTV facilities in all police stations and outposts in the state.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, and the Odisha government has ordered a judicial probe into the matter which is still underway.
Pregnant Woman Murdered By Husband Over Illicit Affair
Another heinious crime reported in the recently part of the outgoing year was the brutal and premeditated murder of a 33-year-old pregnant woman, Shamyamayee Behera, in Sundargarh.
The victim, who was seven months pregnant, was shot dead in cold blood by her husband, Deben Behera (35), who had been having an extramarital affair.
In a shocking attempt to cover his tracks, Deben had initially claimed that his wife was killed by armed robbers during a loot bid.
However, a thorough police investigation revealed the shocking truth, exposing Deben’s sinister plan to eliminate his wife. Deben and his brother-in-law, a police officer, were arrested for their involvement in the crime, which has sent shockwaves across the state.
Cop’s Wife Battles For Life After Murder Bid By Hubby
The final story in this series of heart-wrenching crimes from the outgoing year is yet another shocking case: Nupur Biswal, a police constable’s wife from Bolangir district, has accused her husband, Jyotiranjan Pradhan, of attempting to murder her.
According to Nupur, Jyotiranjan had planned the attack with his friend, Jagannath Pradhan, and took her to a forest where they tried to stone her to death. Fortunately, local residents heard her screams and rushed to her aid, admitting her to the hospital for treatment.
While Jagannath has been apprehended, Jyotiranjan remains at large, evading arrest. Bolangir SP has placed him under suspension from his duties. The investigation into the allegations is underway.
