Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Saturday apprehended Debasis Nayak, a Revenue Inspector (RI) at Krandibili Revenue Circle of Phiringia Tahasil in Kandhamal district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000.
The bribe was sought from a landowner (complainant) who had prepared bricks on his land for personal use.
According to an official press release, Nayak had threatened to take action against the complainant if the demanded bribe was not paid.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Vigilance officials launched an operation and nabbed Nayak while he was in the act of accepting the bribe. The entire amount of Rs 7,000 was recovered from his possession and seized.
In the wake of the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to Nayak, focusing on the Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
A case has been registered at Berhampur Vigilance Police Station under Case No. 4/2025, Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Investigations are ongoing against Nayak, with further details to be provided in due course.
