Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths apprehended Ray Behera, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Siko under Begunia Tehsil in Khurda district while accepting Rs 20,000 bribe from a complainant.
According to sources, the accused had demanded illegal gratification by threatening action against the complainant for felling a tree on government land. Acting on a complaint, vigilance sleuths laid a trap and nabbed the RI while accepting the bribe money.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from the accused and seized by the investigating sleuths.
Vigilance officials also carried out simultaneous raids at two locations linked to Behera to ascertain whether he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
