Bhubaneswar: The State Government had mounted surveillance on Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for a day last week. During this exercise it was observed that the public is caring little for the COVID-19 guidelines / restrictions while moving out in the open, said Special Relief Commissioner, Pradeep Kumar Jena today.
Addressing the press, Jena said that as Odisha moved into the first week of Unlock 4, or substantial easing of restrictions, people in the State have become lackadaisical. “If we continue in the same manner, it will not be possible to win the battle against COVID-19,” he said.
“Doctors and experts worldwide have stressed on social distancing, mask usage and personal hygiene time and again. These are the only defense against COVID till we do not have a vaccine. Unfortunately many of us have started to take things for granted,” said Jena.
The SRC pointed out that the Police will be taking stringent action against those who violate COVID guidelines at public places. “We are being forced to take such steps because people are failing to realise the consequences. We cannot afford to put many in danger for the mistakes and violations of a few,” he added.
It is high time to revise and re-learn the COVID guidelines in two days after which the police will start stringent enforcement, the SRC said. However, it all still remains with the society. Apart from practicing the regulations at personal level, if anyone notices violations, such cases should be immediately reported, the SRC added.
