Nayagarh: A villager was killed and another sustained critical injuries after they were severely beaten up by a rival group at Kaduapada village under Fategarh police station limits late on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sarat Kumar Panda (27) and the injured, Basant Kumar Panda, is the younger brother of the deceased. Currently, Basant is undergoing treatment at the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital. Rivals attacked the brothers with sticks and bricks last night, sources said.
While the reason behind the barbaric act is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigation by police hints at gang rivalry.
A case has been registered in this connection and Fategarh police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
