Rourkela: On the eve of the annual Local Self Government Day or ‘Swayat Shasan Dibas’, on Tuesday, the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) organised a cleanliness drive to raise awareness to keep the city clean.
Under the leadership of Rourkela Municipal Commissioner Dr Subhankar Mohapatra, RMC employees and Swachh Sathis visited the Subash Chandra Bose Fitness Park in Udit Nagar and identified the areas in need of cleaning.
Subsequently, they cleared the weeds and unwanted plants on the premises of the park while drawing public attention to the campaign. An appeal has been made to the public through this campaign for clean, healthy, and plastic-free Rourkela.
Swachh Sathis of all wards, RMC’s Assistant Commissioner Sukanta Chandra Beura, Deputy Commissioners Sudhanshu Bhoi, Sitadevi Majhi, Gourabamaya Pradhan, Ronit Kumar, Deputy Executive Engineer Ajay Saha, and all employees of RMC participated in the drive.
It is pertinent to mention that Rourkela has been placed at 57th in the Swachh Survekshan Ranking -2021. It has become the only city in Odisha to get One Star Rating under the Garbage Free City and the city’s open defecation free (ODF) ranking has improved to ODF++.
