Bhubaneswar: Villagers at Sindhiguda under Nandahandi block of Nabarangpur district have blocked the main road for over 12 hours after an unidentified vehicle killed a schoolboy on Tuesday.
Reportedly, the nine-year-old son of Judhistir Bhatra of the village was going to school with one of his friends on Tuesday morning when an unidentified vehicle hit them. Both the children were immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital.
As the condition of Judhistir’s son worsened, he was shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital in Koraput where he was declared dead.
After the body of the child reached the village yesterday evening, family members and villagers blocked Sindhiguda Road by placing the dead body in the middle of the road. They are demanding Rs 20 lakh compensation.
As per the last reports, several vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road due to the road blockade. Nabarangpur Town Police is trying to pacify the villagers but they are standing strong on their demands.
