Sonepur: Three persons were killed and five sustained grievous injuries in a tragic road accident on Khurda-Bolangir NH 57, on Tuesday.
The mishap took place near Khari when a car coming from Sonepur side rammed into an auto-rickshaw which was coming from Bolangir.
Three persons died on the spot. They were identified as Guabati Jai (40), Satya Pradhan (45) and Prananath Biswal (45). There were eight persons in the auto, five of whom ssutained serious injuries.
Passengers and driver of the car fled from the spot after the tragedy occured. Locals have found a uniform of a police inspector from the car. The driver of the auto was dangerously trapped in the ill-fated vehicle.
Police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot, managed to rescue the driver and shifted him to the hospital. According to reports, a group was heading to Sonepur from Bolangir to sell their weekly produce (vegetables) at the ‘Tuesday Haat’, but fate had cruel plans for them.
