Sundargarh: Continuous rainfall has thrown life out of gear with widespread flooding and disruption reported across the area. The incessant rain has led to waterlogging in various parts of the district, with roads and bridges submerged under floodwaters.

According to reports, the weather department has issued a red warning for Sundargarh, with 511 mm of rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours. The Lefripada, Hemgiri, and Tangarapali blocks have been the worst affected, with roads and bridges damaged or submerged.

The Manoharpur-Sarabahala Road under Hemgiri block has been washed away, disrupting connectivity. The Barpali bridge is also underwater, making it difficult for villagers to access essential services.

That apart, the heavy rainfall has caused significant distress to local residents, with many homes and shops flooded and vehicles submerged in water. The MCL Basundhara Market Complex has been inundated with water, affecting businesses. The OCPL coal mine area has also been affected, with nearby villages experiencing flooding.

In the Bileimunda area, heavy rainfall has caused water to enter homes, with household items floating in the water. The impact of the rain is particularly visible in the mining areas. The Bankibahal-Basundhara road was flooded with rainwater, submerging parked bikes and cars.

Due to incessant rain, the Ib River and other water bodies in the district have swollen, causing floodlike situations in many areas.
