Bhubaneswar: The four roads leading to the Odisha Assembly have been blocked after three attempted suicides in the last one week.
Police Commissionerate ACP (Traffic) Swastik Panda confirmed the same to OMMCOM NEWS. He said that Naka points have been installed at Jaydev Bhawan, OMC house, Keshari Talkies, PMG squares.
Swastik added that a total of eight officers and three platoons of police force have been deployed. While all government vehicles will have a free pass, commoners will be allowed to pass through after proper checking of their ID and acknowledging the purpose.
First, an aggrieved couple from Nayagarh district who alleged that their 5-year-old daughter was kidnapped and murdered, attempted to self-immolate. This issue has now gained political heat and the ongoing Winter Session of Odisha Legislative Assembly is in turmoil since then as the opposition members have been stalling the proceedings with repeated pandemonium and adjournment of the House. They have been demanding the resignation of Nayagarh MLA-cum-Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo.
Then three farmers from Athagarh areas also made the same suicide attempt before the Assembly demanding justice to them in the loan fraud committed in their local cooperative bank. Last but not the least, yesterday an agitated mother and her son from Jagatsinghpur district’s Kujang area too attempted suicide. They also allege that justice has been denied to them by the local police and other higher-ups.
