Balasore: Robbers looted gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh from the house of an army personnel in Mathanuagaon village under Khaira police station in Balasore district, on Saturday.
The army personnel, identified as Rajesh Chandra Shial, is currently stationed in Jammu and Kashmir, while his family resides in Balasore.
According to reports, when Rajesh’s family members were attending a wedding party in the village late last night, the robbers broke into their house by forcing open the back door lock.
Once inside, they pried open a wardrobe and made off with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh before fleeing the scene. Rajesh’s relative, Minati Shial, filed a complaint with the Khaira police station.
Upon receiving the complaint, Khaira Police Station’s Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), Sachindra Mahalik, immediately arrived at the scene and launched an investigation.
During their escape, the robbers left behind a knife and an iron axe, which they had used in the robbery. Locals are now worried about the rising number of robberies in the area.
