Cuttack: Commissionerate Police have arrested seven persons in connection with a loot on August 9 evening at Mahajanpur under Jagatpur police limits in Cuttack Urban Police District (UPD).
The arrested persons include the main accused Sanjay Naik and two receivers, police said.
Police have recovered 248 gm of stolen gold.
“A robbery case was reported on the night of August 9 at Paga outpost under Jagatpur police station limits. Three persons who came on a motorcycle snatched a bag containing 700 gm of gold jewellery from the proprietor of Amarnath Gold Jewellery while he was returning home. They also took away his scooter. They also fired from a country-made pistol,” informed Cuttack DCP Prakash R.
The DCP said that during the investigation involvement of two more persons was detected.
“Five accused persons including the main accused Sanjay Naik of Saliapalli slum were arrested following a raid yesterday.
They had given the gold jewellery to two receivers-one in the Nischintakoili area and another an individual. Gold jewellery weighing 175 with the branding of Amarnath Gold Jewellery and two gold biscuits weighing 73 gm was recovered from them,” the DCP stated.
A gun, a motorcycle and a scooter have been also recovered from them, the DCP added.
“Involvement of another person has been also detected. He is absconding and we will very soon arrest him,” the DCP said.
