Bhubaneswar: Even after four days, the whereabouts of a young man who fell into the Tapang stone quarry at Bada Saunlia under Tapang police limits in Khurda is yet to be traced. On Thursday, a special robot prepared by Rourkela NIT joined the rescue operation.
As per reports, four youths from a Pahala-based educational institute came to the Green Lake at Bada Saunlia on Monday to shoot a reel. One of the youths fell into the quarry while making reels standing on the brink of the lake. Seeing it, Om Prakash Rath, one of his friends immediately jumped to his rescue. Though the youth who had slipped could be rescued, Om went missing.
A team of Odisha Fire and Emergency Service rushed to the spot with an advanced waterproof camera to rescue Om. The firefighters, with assistance from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and the National Disaster Rapid Action Force were also involved in this operation.
An NIT official said, “The stone quarry is 100 feet deep. We are scanning the area inch by inch. The operation will continue throughout the day.”
