Puri: A rock fell from a temple near Maa Bimala temple on the premises of Puri Jagannath Temple in the early morning on Saturday.

According to sources, the 10-inch long and 5-inch width rock fell off the Ekadashi temple near Maa Bimala temple. The stone was found early on Saturday morning. There was no casualty as there were no devotees present there at the time.

However, the tin roof of the Ekadashi temple has been damaged due to the falling of rock.

Upon being informed by the Srimandir Commander, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has collected the rock and will launch a probe into the matter.

It is suspected that the loose boulder might have fallen due to monkey menace.

The exact reason behind the incident can be ascertained after ASI’s investigation, sources said.

Despite being maintained by the ASI since 1975, the 12th-century shrine has witnessed such incidents many times, it is alleged.
