Koraput: A bear that had been wreaking havoc in the Aunli Farm House under the Borigumma block in Koraput district was finally captured by a team of forest officials on Wednesday.
The bear, which had been on the loose for two days, had caused panic among the locals, with over 100 labourers at the farmhouse refusing to work due to fear.
The forest department, with the help of a tranquillization team, managed to sedate the bear and capture it using a net. The bear has been shifted to a cage and will be kept at the Borigumma range office.
During the capture operation, one forest official was injured after being attacked by the bear.
The capture of the bear has brought relief to the locals, who had been living in fear due to the bear’s presence in the area.
Earlier on Tuesday, the bear attacked a Forest Department vehicle, tearing off the bonnet with its razor-sharp claws while officials were still inside.
Also, the bear entered a private farmhouse on Tuesday, sending over 100 staff members fleeing for their lives. Terrified, they took shelter on the rooftop, too afraid to venture outside.
