Baripada: In a tragic incident, Paresh Chandra Giri (60), a resident of Kashiabeda village under the Singda section of Karanjia Range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, was killed in the early hours of Friday after being attacked by a rogue elephant.
According to Forest department officials, the incident occurred around 1:30 AM on Friday while Paresh was asleep after dinner. The elephant, which had earlier damaged two houses in Indupur village, entered Kashiabeda and barged into Paresh’s home, trampling him to death inside.
Forest department personnel from the Singda section, who were engaged in driving the elephant away from Indupur, rushed to the scene upon receiving news of the attack. Paresh was rescued from the site and rushed to Karanjia Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Friday, and the body was handed over to the bereaved family. The Forest department has initiated steps for providing initial compensation to the victim’s family and is continuing efforts to monitor and drive away the rogue elephant.
