Dhenkanal: An elderly woman died after being attacked by a rogue elephant at Ambanali village under the Dhenkanal Sadar range on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Bhima Sahu (60), wife of Bimbadhar Sahu.
According to reports, Bhima was attacked by the elephant around dawn when she went to the cashew orchard near her village. She was collecting cashews from the orchard. The elephant’s attack was so fatal that Bhima died on the spot.
The villagers, upon learning of the incident, rushed to the spot and managed to chase the elephant away. They then informed the forest officials, who reached the scene and took control of the situation.
This incident has sparked tension in the area, with locals expressing fear and concern about the increasing human-elephant conflict. The villagers have urged the forest officials to take immediate action to mitigate the conflict and prevent further loss of life.
