Bhubaneswar: A person was killed by a rogue elephant in Bantala village in Angul district on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Bijay Nayak, a resident of Dhokuta village.
According to reports, the elephant had been wreaking havoc in the area since Monday evening. Forest officials, including forester Lalit Behera, were trying to pacify the elephant.
However, when the rogue elephant entered the Harijan Sahi, Bijay, hearing a noise, went behind his house. It was then that the elephant trampled him to death.
The incident has sparked tension in the area, with residents protesting the failure of the forest department in curbing the elephant menace.
Upon being informed, Bantala police reached the spot and pacified the villagers.
This is the second such incident in the area within a week, raising concerns about the safety of villagers and the need for effective measures to prevent such attacks.
