Bhubaneswar: A 35-year-old woman was killed by a wild elephant in Saharagoda village under Bantala Block in Angul district.
The deceased has been identified as Jili Behera.
As per reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning when Behera went to fetch water from a nearby tube well. The tusker, attacked her near the tube-well, killing her on the very spot.
The village is now gripped with tension with locals demanding safety measures from the forest department personnel.
According to locals, the area is frequently visited by elephant herds, but efforts to control them have been ineffective, leading to repeated attacks.
The forest department has yet to arrive at the scene, sparking outrage among villagers.
