Cuttack: Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma was caught on camera displaying his frustration over loud DJ music being played during the second ODI match against England at the Barabati Stadium on Sunday.
As India chased a target of 305 runs, Rohit, who was batting at 29 runs, was visibly distracted by the music and asked the DJ to stop playing it using hand gestures. The incident occurred when India had scored 48 runs without losing a wicket.
Rohit’s annoyance was clear as he mouthed ‘Bandh Karo’ (stop it), indicating that the music was affecting his concentration. The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media.
Despite the brief distraction, Rohit went on to score his 32nd ODI century, hitting 119 runs off 90 balls, including 12 fours and seven sixes. India successfully chased down the target, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
On the other hand, a technical glitch in one of the floodlight towers caused a 30-minute delay in the match. Expressing concern over it, the Odisha government has ordered an investigation into the floodlight failure.
Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj has sought an explanation from the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) regarding the incident.
