**Rourkela**: In a rise in ATM loot incidents in Rourkela, a State Bank of India ATM here caught fire during a suspected loot bid by miscreants late Monday night. This incident occurred in Jagada , Adarshpalli Market complex coming under Jhirpani police station, Rourkela.
This is the fourth such loot incident reported in a span of three days in Rourkela.
Allegedly, the SBI ATM machine caught fire when the miscreants used gas cutters to break it open. The miscreants fled from the spot in panic leaving behind the gas cutter, gas cylinder, auto-rickshaw and other equipments they had brought along with them.
The police have seized all the equipments along with the auto-rickshaw.
“At around 4.25am on Monday morning, we noticed the fire tenders being engaged in dousing the flames. When we asked them they said the ATM caught fire during a loot bid. Being a crowded place, it is surprising how miscreants even attempted such a loot,” said a local person.
The police has initiated an investigation into the incident, but it is yet to be confirmed if the cash in the ATM was looted or burnt to ashes.
On 20th January, SBI and Canara Bank ATMs were allegedly looted by miscreants, while the next day on 21st January, one more ATM in the civil township was reportedly found broken.
