Rourkela: The Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) celebrated the Local Self Government Day (Swayat Shasan Dibas) with fanfare on Thursday. On this occasion, various programmes were organised by the municipal body, and a number of new projects were also inaugurated.
In the event organised by the municipal corporation, Sarada Prasad Nayak, Odisha Minister for Labour and Employees Insurance Department was the chief guest and he hoisted the national flag on the office premises of the corporation and addressed the employees. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Nayak, who is the MLA from Rourkela constituency, said that the Municipal Corporation has been successful in providing services to the people due to the cooperation of the employees. He expressed hope that this trend will continue.
Along with this, he advised the employees to work in cooperation with the people and congratulated them on the Local Self-Government Day. The minister performed the ‘Bhoomi pujan’ for a Mission Shakti Cafe at Uditnagar, cold storage at Traffic Street Chhak and Chhend Food Court.
At another programme, Additional District Collector and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Shubhdak Mahapatra inaugurated a children’s health check-up camp held on the corporation office premises.
On the occasion, a friendly football match was played between the employees of the corporation in the Udit Nagar Mini Stadium.
Apart from this, a fancy dress competition among the employees of the Municipal Corporation, a group dance by the cleaning staff, the drama ‘Sapan Nahi Sat’ on various services provided by the civic body, and various cultural programmes were presented by the employees of the Municipal Corporation. In the afternoon, the Metropolitan Corporation Commissioner presented prizes to the winners of the various programmes held on the occasion of Local Self-Government Day.
