Rourkela: Acting on reliable intelligence, the Plantsite Police Station night patrolling team, led by SI B.B. Khatei, foiled a dacoity attempt late Monday night near Congress Bhawan, Nayabazar, and arrested six armed criminals who were allegedly preparing for the crime.

Police recovered three iron rods, one Bhujali (sharp weapon), and three knives from their possession. The accused were forwarded to court on Tuesday. Officials said the swift action helped avert a major crime in the city.

In a separate operation, based on credible input regarding gambling activities, the Bondamunda Police Station team conducted a raid and apprehended five persons. The police seized ₹25,200 in cash, four mobile phones, one gambling machine, two scooters, playing cards, and other gambling materials from the spot.

A case has been registered under Section 3 of the Odisha Prevention of Gambling Act (PS Case No. 222 dated 07.10.2025).

Both successful operations were shared by Rourkela SP on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the district police’s proactive measures to maintain law and order and curb criminal and gambling activities in the region.
