Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms smuggling, Rourkela police have arrested Rajesh Sahu, the prime accused in a high-profile firearms racket. The accused, a native of Bihar, was apprehended by Rourkela SP Nitesh Wadhwani, and a cache of weapons was recovered from his possession.
The seizure included 10 pistols, 7 magazines, and 6 live bullets, indicating the scale and seriousness of the illegal arms trade.
Police sources confirmed that further investigation is underway to uncover the network and identify other individuals linked to the racket.
Since October last year, the Rourkela police have intensified their operations against illegal arms dealers. A total of 13 cases have been registered across different police station limits, resulting in the arrest of 52 individuals and the recovery of 27 illegal firearms so far.
