Rourkela: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipes estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh were destroyed in a massive fire that broke out at the Udit Nagar High School ground where these pipes were stacked.
According to reports, it took five fire engines around two hours to douse the blaze.
Timely action by the firemen could save the remaining pipes valued to be around Rs 30 lakh from being gutted.
The PVC pipes stacked on the school’s ground are said to be the property of Rourkela Smart City Ltd.
Rourkela Superintendent of Police K Shiva Subramani, Commissioner Rourkela Municipal Corporation, and other senior officials were present at the spot supervising the fire fighting operation.
While the real cause of the blaze is not yet ascertained, it is suspected to be the handiwork of anti-social elements.
