Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Secretary to CM (5T) V.K. Pandian and Sports & Youth Affairs Special Secretary Vineel Krishna today visited Rourkela BPUT campus to review the proposed project site of world class hockey stadium there.
It has been tipped to be the largest hockey stadium in the country of international standard. Its sitting capacity will be 20,000.
The construction work of the proposed ultra modern hockey stadium has been targeted to be completed by mid of 2022.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced it last month as the proposed world class hockey stadium has been slated as another venue apart from Kalinga Stadium for hosting the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup.
The design of Rourkela Hockey Stadium is being made keeping in view the world class experience to be provided to both the hockey players and spectators. This stadium will have main pitch, flood light, practice pitch, gym hydro therapy, media centre, wireless centre, parking lots and other ultra modern facilities.
Since Sundargarh district is famous for its hockey players and as they have significantly contributed to the India Hockey Team, this proposed world class hockey stadium in the district is a mark of honour to such a remarkable contribution.
After personally visiting the project site and making a review of it today, the Chief Secretary, Secretary to CM (5T) and Sports Special Secretary will very soon put up its detailed presentation before the Chief Minister, a press communiqué of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated.
