Bhubaneswar: In a swift operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two women from Kandhamal district for attempting to smuggle 7.5 kg of ganja aboard a Kerala-bound express train.
The accused have been identified as Jhulata Nayak, 39, and Renuka Nayak, 40, both residents of Kandhamal.RPF officials stated that a dedicated crime prevention and detection team — led by Assistant Sub-Inspector K. Devarajan, along with Head Constables Jayan P.V., Suthakaran, and S. Ramkumar — carried out a special checking drive between Tiruppur and Coimbatore stations on Monday.
During routine inspections on the MGR Chennai Central – Alappuzha SF Express (train no. 22639), the personnel spotted the two women behaving suspiciously with shoulder bags in an unreserved coach. The check was conducted as the train passed between Peelamedu and Coimbatore stations around 4 a.m.
Upon searching the bags, authorities recovered 7.5 kg of ganja concealed inside. The women were immediately detained and escorted to the RPF post at Coimbatore railway station.
RPF Inspector Upendra Kumar promptly informed the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) team. The seized contraband, along with the two accused, was handed over to NIB personnel for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
