Bhubaneswar: Railway Protection Force (RPF) of East Coast Railway (ECoR) under command of IG & Principal Chief Security Commissioner Raja Ram conducted surprise raids at more than 20 places on Friday against illegal e-ticketing and touting activities.
The raids were conducted in the States of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh & Chhattisgarh under ECoR jurisdiction during the nationwide crackdown against such illegal activities under ‘Operation Thunder’ as per the direction of Director General of RPF, New Delhi.
Nineteen cases were registered against same number of illegal e-ticketing agents/touts. They were arrested for prosecution U/S-143 of Railway Act. About 728 numbers of railway e-tickets valued Rs 15,21,670 were seized. Besides, incriminating materials including liquid cash, modems, computers and other accessories worth more than Rs 5 lakh have also been seized.
The raid was part of ongoing war by RPF against E-ticketing business being conducted across the nation which this time included Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Berhampur, Kantabanjhi, Rayagada (in Odisha), Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam (in Andhra Pradesh) and Mahasamund (in Chhattisgarh).
In view of summer holidays rush and heavy demand for Railway reserved tickets, the mission was worked out in advance with meticulous planning and in close coordination with IRCTC. Information about fake and fictitious IDs and touts were procured and intelligence based probe was taken up before going to raid such locations.
Railways is committed to take strong and sustained action against touting elements even in the future to ensure safe and hassle free experience with Indian Railways.
