Bargarh: Bargarh Town police seized Rs 10 lakh cash from a pick-up van during vehicle checking near Haldipani Chhak on Thursday. Checking of vehicles has been intensified since the model code of conduct for the ensuing polls is in force.
The cash was seized from the possession of the driver of the pick-up van which was going to Sambalpur from Barpali. The driver of the pick-up van Chudamani Dora has been detained by Bargarh Town police.
According to Bargarh Additional Tahasildar Dibakar Pradhan, exact details of where the cash was being transported and to whom it was to be delivered have not been ascertained yet.
Pradhan said that the Income Tax department has been informed about the seizure. Further investigation into the matter by the police is underway.
