Bhubaneswar: An analysis of the three bank accounts of Akash Pathak, son of senior IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak arrested by the Vigilance in a disproportionate assets case has revealed deposits totalling a whopping Rs 14.77 crore.
“Analysis of statements of three bank accounts of his son (Akash Pathak) at Bhubaneswar and Pune showed cash deposits of Rs 9.48 crore and deposits through transfer/clearings of Rs 5.29 crore, totalling Rs 14.77 crore,” the Vigilance Directorate said in a press note issued this evening.
Verification of land records and educational expenditure is being made, it added.
The press note stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) examined three Forest Department officers (one DFO, two ACFs), the travel and tour operator handling booking of air tickets / chartered flights / hotels etc. and the driver of Abhay Kant Pathak.
Relevant CCTV footages were seized from the residence and the apartment searched earlier, it added.
The press note said that verification was undertaken at previous places of posting of Abhaya Kant Pathak at Rajgangpur, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Angul, Boudh, Koraput, Berhampur, etc. as well as in the office of PCCF and Forest & Environment Department.
The officers of State Forensic Science Laboratory, Bhubaneswar have started a forensic examination of the seized cell phones, laptops, and other seized devices, the press note added.
The SIT consisting of 3 Addl SPs, 4 DSPs, 3 Inspectors, Bank Consultant, Chartered Accountant and Forensic Auditor and others are conducting an investigation into various aspects of the case, the press note further stated.
Senior IFS officer and former Addl PCCF Abhay Kant Pathak and his son Akash have been remanded to judicial custody till December 9 following their arrest in a disproportionate assets case.
