Bargarh: Cash amounting to Rs 19 lakh was seized from a car at Barpalli area here late Thursday night. This occurred during a regular vehicle inspection conducted due to upcoming Bijepur be-elections.
As per reports, the car belongs to a Chattisgarh-based businessman Paresh Agarwal. A Baghbahara resident, Agarwal was interrogated regarding the money and then let go. However, the Income Tax department was duly informed who will be conducting its own inquiry in this matter.
The seizure was done as a precaution in view of the model code of conduct which is in place for the October 21 assembly polls in Odisha’s Bijepur constituency. It is important to note here that the campaigning for the same is set to begin today.
