Rs 35K Demonetized Currency Found During Raid On Nayagarh Asst Exe Engineer

Bhubaneswar: Apart from other recoveries, Rs 35,000 worth of demonetized currency (Rs 500 notes) were recovered during the house search of Rusinath Baral, Assistant Executive Engineer, RD Ranpur Division, Nayagarh, informed Odisha Vigilance on Friday.

Baral, who was found in possession of disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2.70 crore during the raid on his properties yesterday, was arrested today, the Vigilance added.

Four teams of Odisha Vigilance led by 4 DSsP, 8 Inspectors and other staff had conducted simultaneous house searches on the properties of Baral at four places in Khordha, Nayagarh, and Dhenkanal district yesterday.

The Vigilance had unearthed 1 triple storeyed building at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, 1 single-storeyed building at village Sadangi, Dhenkanal, 9 plots including 7 plots in Sadangi, Dhenkanal district, 1 plot at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar and 1 plot at Gothpatna, Bhubaneswar, 1 four-wheeler, 1 two-wheeler, Bank deposits over Rs 44.73 Lakh, Insurance deposits over Rs 13.42 Lakh, gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 9.04 Lakh, cash of Rs 1 30,000/- and other movable and immovable properties in his possession.

After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Baral were calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 2,70,05,496 (Rupees Two Crore Seventy Lakh Five Thousand Four Hundred Ninety-six) which constituted 397% of his known sources of income.

As Baral was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, a case was registered against him and his wife U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018 at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station on Thursday.

In course of the investigation, today i.e. on 19.11.2021,  Baral has been arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal.
