Bhubaneswar: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has submitted Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the construction of five major stormwater drains in the city, Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra informed the state assembly on Tuesday.

He also stated that, to address the persistent waterlogging problem, the state government has released Rs 4 crore for preparing a comprehensive drainage master plan.

In a written reply to a question by Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous, Minister Mahapatra said that the DPRs, vetted by Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, are currently undergoing further technical scrutiny. The Orissa High Court has directed that the reports be re-evaluated by IIT Bhubaneswar in the public interest, following an order issued on September 18, 2025.

“After receipt of the DPRs duly vetted by IIT Bhubaneswar, further necessary steps will be taken,” said Minister Mahapatra.

He also stated that other short-term precautionary measures are being implemented by the CMC to improve drainage of heavy rainwater from all previously identified vulnerable locations.
