Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Communications has allocated a total capital outlay of Rs 5,183 crore for 2023-24 in the Union Budget. According to the figures shared by the Ministry, 51 mobile towers in left wing extremism (LWE) afflicted areas have been commissioned.
“While, a total 483 mobile towers have been planned in LWE areas, 51 have been commissioned, and these towers cover all the 51 Security Sites,” information shared by the Communications Ministry revealed.
Similarly, 256 mobile towers out of the 261 planned, in these areas, are radiating. “All radiating sites are being upgraded to 4G.”
Under the Aspirational Districts programme, 2379 Mobile Towers have been planned covering 3933 Villages. Similarly, 2,813 villages have been identified for 4G saturation. As many as 6,738 Gram Panchayats out of 6,792 Gram Panchayats have been covered under BharatNet project, the figures stated.
“Further, BharatNet will now connect all GPs/ Villages in the Country, including about 13 Villages (Other than GPs) of Odisha,” an official press note stated.
