Bhubaneswar: A new greenfield airport, to be built at an estimated cost of ₹5,631 crore in Puri, has received in-principle approval from the Central Government, marking a significant step toward boosting Odisha’s tourism and economic growth.
Named Shree Jagannath Airport, the project will span 1,164 acres and be developed in three phases, with the capacity to serve 46 lakh passengers annually upon completion.

The initiative aligns with Odisha’s vision to modernize its tourism infrastructure while capitalizing on Puri’s spiritual and cultural significance. The airport is anticipated to create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and position Odisha as a premier travel destination.
Chief Minister Majhi extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu for their pivotal roles in securing approval for the project.
