Sundargarh: Odisha has lent a helping hand in the operation launched to rescue the 41 workers trapped inside the collapsed under-construction Uttarkashi tunnel in Uttarakhand.
Expert rescue team engaged in the rescue of the trapped workers is now trying to bring the labourers from the tunnel using special pipes. These special pipes have been manufactured at the Rourkela Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in Odisha. Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft are being used to fly these special iron pipes from Rourkela to the accident site.
While some pipes were dispatched on Tuesday, more pipes will be sent to Uttarakhand tomorrow. As a result, security has been beefed up at the Rourkela Airport.
It is worth mentioning here that 41 labourers engaged in the construction of the Uttarkashi tunnel were trapped after a portion of the tunnel collapsed on November 12. Since then various teams have been working round-the-clock to rescue the trapped workers. Five of the trapped workers are from Odisha.
