Bhubaneswar: The Special Vigilance Court, Bhubaneswar on Monday sentenced the retired Executive Engineer of RW Division, Umarkote in Nabarangpur district Simadri Nayak to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 3 years after convicting him for possession of disproportionate assets, said an official press release.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,00,000 on Nayak and in default of payment of the fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 6 months more for the offence under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(e)of PC Act, 1988, the release added.
According to the release, the court also sentenced Laxmi Nayak, wife of retired Executive Engineer Simadri Nayak to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and imposed a fine of Rs 2,00,000 on her after convicting her for possession of disproportionate assets.
The court has ruled that Laxmi Nayak in default of payment of fine, shall undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence under section 109 IPC.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Simadri Nayak, Ex-Executive Engineer (Retired) following his conviction, the release said.
