Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed on the premises of the Utkal University here on Sunday when a local student leader and his companions raised strong objections to a speech by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Professor Surajit Mazumdar at a seminar.
Sources said that the Odisha Citizens Forum organised a seminar on Indian Constitution at the PG Council Hall of the university today. As Professor Mazumdar started delivering his lecture, a student leader and his companions opposed the speech and created pandemonium demanding that the event be stopped.
Consequently, the organisers and the student leader’s associates got involved in a verbal dual followed by a scuffle, injuring two persons.
Both sides filed separate FIRs at the Shaheed Nagar police station accusing each other and, subsequently, the police launched an investigation into the incident.
