Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed a ruckus soon after the House assembled for the day’s business on Wednesday. As a result, the Speaker adjourned the House in the midst of the Question Hour.
Opposition members, especially the BJP MLAs, raised the issue of alleged police actions against the protesting BJP Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, at the Lower PMG in the capital city on Tuesday. BJP MLAs rushed near the Speaker’s podium with placards and shouted slogans against the police excesses during the protest. The other Opposition members joined them soon.
Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha tried to pacify the members, but the situation went out of control. As a result, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 11.30 am.
Noisy scenes prevailed again when the proceedings of the Assembly resumed business after 11.30 am and the Speaker adjourned the House for the second time till 4.00 pm.
