**Bhubaneswar: ** As Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has geared up for its 20th Foundation Day on December 26, the regional party in power for the fourth consecutive term is all set to churn out its future course of action, especially, for the most challenging 2019 general elections.
Thus, the party has opted for the pilgrim town of Puri as its venue since its 20 years old arduous journey and success story has been the gracings of Lord Jagannath, the presiding deity of Odisha.
Senior BJD leader and Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty said, “As a regional party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has been most successful in the entire country. The party is going to celebrate its 20th Foundation Day on December 26 in Puri town.”
“A mammoth meeting has been arranged for the occasion. Starting from the grassroots level to the State level, representatives from the respective party organization from across the State and from all the frontal wings of the party will participate in it. About 30,000 representatives will gather at the venue for which elaborate arrangement has been made accordingly,” he informed.
The Puri MLA remarked, “BJD during its 20-year-long tenure has been able to win the trust and confidence of the people by the blessings of Lord Jagannath. Besides the State’s development, it has also carved a niche for implementing its significant pro-poor schemes and programmes.”
Senior BJD MLA Sanjay Das Burma said, “December 26 will mark the assembly of BJD’s representatives on the occasion of the party’s 20th Foundation Day at Puri Shrikhetra. Odisha Chief Minister as well as BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to formally inaugurate it.”
“Detailed deliberations will be made on the party’s two-decade-old journey. Also agenda will be charted out for our party’s future strategy, aim and objective,” he informed.
He also informed, “The party workers will bestow their cordial gestures on the Chief Minister throughout the route from Bhubaneswar to Puri. 20 theme façades are being readied and to be erected. They will highlight the remarkable schemes and programmes of the State Government.”
“The journey during the last 20 years was not easy and comfortable. When in the 1999 Super Cyclone Odisha had been devastated, especially its economy, our party had been formed then and its steward was legendary Biju Babu’s son Naveen Patnaik. For the last 17 years, we have been in power consecutively due to the blessings of the people for which our dutifulness and responsibility towards the people of Odisha has grown manifold. Hence on the day, we’ll take a pledge how to further strengthen our party organization and serve the people in a better way,” the former minister and Brahmagiri MLA stated.
In his reactions on the development, BJP MLA Pradip Purohit said, “After the 2014 fourth consecutive term, there has been a dent in BJD while Naveen Patnaik’s image is fading and diminishing. In a bid to depict afresh the declining image of Naveen Babu, this celebration is a tool.”
“For instance, the Lookout Award of Best Administrator followed by nationwide advertisements has rather taken a heavy toll on our State coffers,” he lambasted.
The saffron party spokesperson chided, “Whatever fanfare they do and indulge in hullabaloo of this sort, it will all turn fiasco as the people of Odisha have already made up their mind for a change in leadership and the alternative is BJP. Despite the concerted advertisements and propaganda, people of Odisha are going to reject Naveen Patnaik.”
