Paradip: In a precarious incident, hundreds of litres of crude oil leaked from a pipeline of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in Odisha’s Paradip entered a river in on Saturday. According to reports, the oil leak continued even on Sunday polluting the river and endangering the lives of people as well as aquatic life.
The crude oil leaked from an underground pipeline of IOCL between Atharbanki and Nehru Bangala in Paradip and entered the mangrove forest and nearby Kadia river. It has also polluted farmlands in the region.
Reports said that some miscreants may have ruptured the pipeline to steal the crude oil. A plastic container has been found from the spot.
While there has been no statement from the IOCL authorities on this matter, so far only an oil theft report has been filed at the local police station. What is known from the complaint is that unidentified miscreants ruptured the pipeline of IOCL front of the gate of JSW Company. As a result, a large amount of unrefined oil came out and mixed with the water in the nearby river, destroying the entire area.
