**Bhubaneswar:** It was a proud moment for the bereft parents of Saheed Satyananda Panda as a new barrack now stands here as in memoriam to the martyred hero of 7th Battalion of OSAP (Odisha Special Armed Police). Also a statue of Saheed Satyananda Panda was unveiled.
Talking to media, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty told media, “Saheed Satyananda Panda got martyred during Gosma operation in 2008. This new barrack has been named after him. His parents are also present on the occasion among us. We also felicitated them today.”
“May his noble deed remain as an ideal and his name remain immortal because of his supreme sacrifice,” the Police Commissioner remarked.
He informed, “This new barrack has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore in which about 150 sepoys can be accommodated. I would like to thank the State Police Housing Corporation for constructing such a type of building. It has also been completed on record time.”
Saheed Satyananda Panda’s father Padmalochan Panda in his reactions said, “I’m immensely pleased that my son has sacrificed his life for the nation. The Sepoy Association has named this new barrack after him. A statue has also been unveiled. Every year we are felicitated during the annual function in the battalion here. We’re elated at such gestures.”
“Martyred Satpathy Babu of SOG has been conferred Ashok Chakra, but my son nothing for which we are aggrieved. If it (Ashok Chakra) is presented, I can die peacefully. I don’t long after anything more, neither cash or kind,” rued the bereft father wearing a brave smile.
