Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested one Nirmalendu Kabi, Amin in Saintala Tahsildar office in Bolangir district for demanding and accepting bribe from a person for demarcation of his land as per orders of the Court of Tahasildar.
Based on a complaint Vigilance officials laid a trap today wherein Kabi was caught demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the complainant in the premises of the Tahasil office at Saintala.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Kabi and seized in the presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as money purse wash of Kabi gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented residential house of Kabi at Saintala, Bolangir, house at native village Baliapal under Bari police station limits in Jajpur district and his office room.
Kabi has been arrested and has been forwarded to the Court.
Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018.
Further, investigation into the matter is underway.
