Rayagada: The Commissioner of Railway Safety, North Frontier Circle, Kolkata, RK Sharma began inquiry into the Samaleswari Express mishap in which three railway personnel were killed on Tuesday.
Sharma and his team visited the spot in Rayagada and began probe. All parameters like speed of the train, signal figures etc at the time of mishap are being looked into. The team will hold a statutory inquiry meeting at the Officer’s rest house of East Coast Railway near Rayagada railway station.
Meanwhile, the same Express train halted between Kotpad and Kusumi in Jeypore today due to a technical glitch. The Safety Commissioner also reached the spot to take stock of the situation, reports added. The train is running six hours late.
On Tuesday, the train had caught on fire after colliding with a tower car between SINGAPUR ROAD – A cabin and KEUTIGUDA railway stations. While three lives had been lost, four railway staff had been suspended for dereliction of duty.
Following the mishap, a high-level enquiry by Commissioner of Railway Safety, an independent authority under Ministry of Civil Aviation, was ordered. The exact reason behind the mishap and precautionary measures to be taken will be ascertained after the inquiry.
