Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards sustainable waste management and renewable energy production, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Oil India Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant in the town.

The project aims to utilise the town’s waste to produce clean energy, tackling the issue of waste management while generating a valuable resource. Sambalpur generates approximately 196 tonnes of solid waste daily, and this initiative will help manage it in an environmentally friendly manner.

The CBG plant will use anaerobic digestion technology to convert organic waste, including household waste and agricultural debris, into high-quality bio-gas. The process involves removing impurities like carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, resulting in a clean and efficient energy source.
