Sambalpur: An inmate was found hanging inside the high-security Sambalpur Circle Jail in Odisha on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Dharanidhara Mahananda (35) of the Sindurapanka area under the Sadar police station limits. He was reportedly arrested in a case relating to a family dispute and dowry. He was lodged in the jail on Saturday.
According to reports, Mahananda’s body was found hanging with a towel from the skylight of a bathroom of the jail.
The prison staff and inmates first spotted Dharanidhara hanging in the bathroom of the prison. On being informed, the jail authorities rushed him to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
According to police, the primary investigation hints at suicide but the precise reason will be known after they receive the postmortem report.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the incident.
