Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court will hear the case related to a contempt case filed against the lawyers of the Sambalpur Bar Association who allegedly violated the apex court’s directive to the lawyers ordering them not to stage agitations in support of their demand for the establishment of a permanent Bench of the Orissa High Court in Sambalpur.
Acting on a petition, the apex court served a show-cause notice on 191 lawyers on January 12 directing them to clarify why a contempt of court proceeding will not be initiated against them.
The court had asked the lawyers to give the clarification either through an affidavit or by deposing before the Supreme Court in person on February 6.
A two-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Abhay S Oka will conduct the hearing of the matter on Monday.
According to sources, all members of the Bar Associations of western Odisha have jointly filed one application to dispose of the case. At the same time, some lawyers have submitted affidavits with an unconditional apology.
