Sambalpur: In a bid to curb down extortion bids, Sambalpur police arrested four persons, including Rengali Congress MLA candidate Balakrushna Rohidas, and forwarded them all to court today.
In his media reactions, Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said, “The complainant complained of extortion bid by some persons. He has also been assaulted. After the preliminary enquiry into the complaint, FIR has been registered. Four accused have been arrested and legal action will be taken. We appeal all to use our office 5T call number and immediately inform us about extortion bid. We’ll take immediate legal action. Today the four arrested persons have been forwarded to court.”
“Investigation is still on. In case of evidence gathered against any more accused, legal action will be taken,” he added
As per a press note released by the district police office (DPO), a case has been registered under Sections 395 and 386 of the IPC on October 26, 2020. This instant case has been registered on the written complaint of complainant Goutam Kumar Reddy, HR and Admn (Varodara Industrial Plant Contractor of Boiling Plant, Aditya alumina Lapanga).
In the report, the complainant has alleged that on 26.10.2020 evening at about 07.30 PM, 5 accussed persons namely Balakrushna Rohidas, Rajesh Rohidas along with 3 others demanded extortion money and brutally attacked him for not giving extortion money and forcibly snatched away Rs 20,000 from him causing injuries to him. The accused persons fled and absconded after the crime.
On getting this information, Sambalpur Police took it seriously and left no stone unturned to nab the culprits and extended its surveillance over the movements of the accused persons. Two special teams were formed to apprehend the culprits under the leadership of SDPO Sadar and IIC Thelkoloi PS and 3 accused persons were apprehended today i, e on 27/10/2020 PM with seizure of cash of Rs 5,000 and one Innova Car bearing Regn No OD-15-F-7346 (Innova),” stated the DPO press note.
It added, “The identities of the other two accused persons are being verified and two special teams have been engaged to apprehend them and raids are being continued at different places of their hideouts to nab the absconding accused persons.
The DPO has also issued Anti Extortion Helpline stating: “Any one having any complaint/information related to any type of extortion can contact 5T Call Centre No 84580 02950. Immediate legal action is assured.”
On the contrary, Sambalpur District Congress Committee (DCC) chief Ashwini Guru told media that the matter is being probed into by a team formed by the DCC. If truth found in the complaint, strict disciplinary action will be taken at any cost.
